Challenge

The client, a family-run bakery with four physical shops in Edmonton, was doing well offline—but their website told a different story. Their previous website, built on ShoutCMS and hosted by Mediashaker, had:
  • Poor navigation and confusing structure
  • A complicated and manual process to update monthly flavours
  • No clear way for customers to find information or submit inquiries
  • High hosting costs and limited CMS flexibility
Despite a strong local fanbase, their online presence didn’t reflect their brand quality or service. They needed a better system—something easier to manage, more affordable, and designed for clarity, performance, and growth.

The Solution

I began with a discovery session and identified three core needs: better navigation, content flexibility, and cost-efficient hosting. Here’s how I tackled it:
CMS Recommendation & Hosting Migration:
I advised the team to switch from ShoutCMS to WordPress for better flexibility. We migrated their domain from Mediashaker to Hostinger, which offered excellent support, performance, and cost savings.
Collaborative Workflow:
I worked closely with the owner’s daughter, who helped throughout the 8-week project. We held multiple video calls, working through design feedback and user needs.
Custom Design & UI/UX Optimization:
I designed a clean, modern, and easy-to-navigate UI, with special attention to:
  • Ingredient visibility on menu pages
  • Clear location details for all four branches
  • Mobile responsiveness and accessibility
Dynamic Flavour Calendar:
Instead of manually updating images, I built a dynamic flavour calendar so they can now update rotating monthly flavours, opening/closing dates, or seasonal offers (like Valentine’s Day) with a few clicks.
No E-Commerce, But Conversion-Focused:

They didn’t need online ordering, but I implemented page-specific contact forms to reduce spam and collect qualified inquiries efficiently.

Training & Handover:

After development, I recorded tutorial videos and conducted a live training session on how to manage and update content independently.
